Kemi Faderin joined DG&B as an intern while pursuing her M.S. in Publishing at NYU. She grew up in Ellicott City, Maryland where she went to college and received her B.A. in English. Shortly after graduation, Kemi moved to New York in early 2015. An internship at Liza Dawson Associates solidified her interest in a career in the publishing industry, especially the agenting side of it. She now works as the financials and subsidiary rights assistant and is currently growing her own list. She is interested in anything different and original, but especially in smart, plot-driven YA, character-driven MG, historical fiction/ non-fiction, and upmarket contemporary women’s fiction.

people of color in historical romance

Kemi says...

Growing up, I was never much of a reader. I preferred watching stories unfold on the TV screen and never thought twice about the books gathering dust on my shelf. It wasn’t until I went through a difficult year after turning twelve, that I found my salvation in books (all thanks to my 8th grade Reading teacher!).

Early on in my college career I knew I didn’t want to do anything that did not relate to books in some way, and my best prospect was the publishing industry. The idea of having a hand in working on a book that can inspire, encourage and save people appealed to me very much and I feel truly blessed and honored to be here at DG&B.
