Just last year I was in a car with a mother of a teen who was belligerently attacking this book and the fact it had been assigned to her son to read in high school (she thought he should be reading Hemmingway). She is the kind of person you don’t want to fight with, and it had been a couple of years since I read it, so I let it pass without comment because I knew better than to get into it with her. But I know this book speaks to kids and I’m happy to see it included in the curriculum still.

This is a good topic for today as tomorrow on Twitter, authors are being asked to name the book that made them want to write. Here’s the info: Twitter Takeover on Wednesday, October 28th beginning at 12 noon, and we’re asking that authors name a book that made them want to become a writer and use the hashtag #BooksThatHooked.

Coincidence?:-)
