Most of us might inject our ragey thoughts toward Hitler and the SS soldiers through our characters, but Wouk manages to make the reader feel like they\’re backstage during meetings of influential military figures, and the reader is allowed the room to draw his/her own conclusions. Every character, every relationship, every political view, is given a well rounded and introspective look without judgment – mostly.

If I had read Wouk instead of my world history book, I\’d have passed that one test.Winds of War is the most comprehensive look of the events leading up to WWII that I\’ve read so far.
