And of course, no self-respecting newborn should be without the GOOD DOG CARL series, and of course their very own Rottweiler to help with the witty dialogue… I’d recommend Dr. Suess’s HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!, except that it was linked to a 90% rise in sausage addiction among a group of babies in the late 50’s….

And good choices.
My kids loved — and still love — all of Sandra Boynton’s books. Many of them are sing alongs.
My favorite is Snuggle Puppy.
Other than Boynton’s books, you can’t go wrong with the classics — Dr. Seuss books, especially One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and Yertle the Turtle.
I read them to my kids when they were babies and now they are able to read them.

Oh, I’m always excited to recommend the Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace to any and all readers, but starting with the series at six years old is my favourite! If you’re not familiar with this series (and oddly it seems like either you know it and LOVE it, or you’ve never heard of it), Betsy and her friend, Tacy, are five in the first book and grow with the reader. Book ten is Betsy’s Wedding and as the title suggests, she’s a grown up woman and a new bride (my mum started reading these to me when I was five, and when Betsy got too old for me, she carried on, loving them herself). They take place around 1900 and on.

I recently read and enjoyed the Clementine series, also.
